Wanda has Left the Building

Sweet Wanda nka Autumn left my house yesterday to join her new forever family. Autumn has a sweet sister now, named Buttercup and a new loving human family as well. As usual, I forgot to take a family photo.

I am so thrilled that Autumn has found such a wonderful home. I am also excited that they live close to me so I will get to see her sometimes. I love being able to keep up with and see my fosters.

I met Autumn's family through Cori and I getting involved with READing Paws (http://www.readingpaws.org/) which in itself is such a wonderful program. Then to have folks who meet Cori decide that it's time for their dream of having a sweet Greyhound in their life come true, makes me so happy.

Greyhounds just have magic that surrounds them and I love being part of it!

Wanda the Great

Wanda is such a terrific dog. She's a well balanced, happy girl. She is starting to learn about toys. It's so much fun to watch a Greyhound discover the joy of toys. When she finds one that makes noise, her little ears perk up.

She's starting to take treats from my hand and is ever so gentle. I also enjoy seeing a foster dog get to try new treats that they have likely never had before. Wanda is NOT a picky eater. She has yet to turn her nose up at anything. She enjoys her morning greenies with the rest of the pack.

Last night because she's been being so good, she got to sleep on a dog bed in the bedroom instead of a crate. She doesn't mind crates, but she's not fond of sleeping in them. She was very happy to sprawl out on a nice, big, comfy, overstuffed dog bed. She never moved once.

True to her Greyhound heritage, she likes to roach and started roaching yesterday. To me that's always a sure sign that a foster feels comfortable.

Today Wanda got to meet some children. She met a friend's 3 1/2 year old little boy this morning and then this afternoon she met my neighbor's 5 and 6 year old rough and tumble boys. She was not phased and wagged her whole body when she was around the boys. She thought is was quite fun when one of them start rolling a ball for her to chase. She should be an excllent family dog.

She's so happy, friendly and loving. She's only been here a few days and she has just settled right in. She knows the routines and is happy to be a part of everything.

She really is Wanda the Great!

New Girl in Town

Wanda came into foster with me last evening. She is a great girl. She rode on my truck like a champ.

When we stopped, she would stand up and look around, but as soon as we started moving she would lay down again. She wasn't sure about jumping up into the truck initially, but she jumped out fine when we got home.

She met her foster brothers & sisters. She was calm and confident, but not pushy. She's been enjoying investigating everything. She wants to see and sniff everything, but so far no countersurfing attempts--but my preventatives are in place.

She's been curious about PJ, my 16 year old cat. I just give her a verbal correction if she looks it him with any interest. I've let her sniff him. He's a calm cat so with a little bit more time, I think she'll be just fine with him. Reggie (my parrot) is another matter. She has looked at him with more interest than I would like. He just has to stay in his cage while she's around.

She got the stairs pretty quickly--pretty much the first time she did them. She's not bothered by hardwood floors at all. She's definitely got her act together for a girl who has not been off the track very long.

She slept in a crate in my room her first night. She cried several times. I would ignore her. If she kept doing it, I would tell her to be quiet. If she persisted, I took her out to potty. So needless to say, we went out to potty 2 times in the middle of night. She did go both times, but not a lot. I think she's just a smart girl who knows when she's outside, she better take advantage of it.

I worked from home today and she's done great napping on a dog bed in my office. She's been out to potty a couple of times. No problems at all.

She's not overly needy. She likes attention but is not desperate for it. . She likes to know where I am at, but doesn't feel this huge need to follow me all time. That's terrific for a new foster.

Wanda is just an all around great girl. Later this week, I'll try to get her out for an outing to my local feed & seed store.

A Hound Named Wanda

Not to be confused with a Fish Called Wanda, this girl is just as alluring as Jamie Lee Curtis was in the movie A Fish Called Wanda in the late 80s.

SEGA's Wanda is an adorable brindle hound. She is sweet and loving. I suspect this Wanda would make a great movie watching pal, all curled up in her forever home with forever family. She's dreams of being discovered and made into someone's own "starlet." Won't you make this hound named Wanda's dreams come true? You won't regret it.
